Introducing Midwifery at Meadows

When people meet me for the first time and hear that I’m a midwife, they often ask, “What exactly does a midwife do?” The truth is, midwifery is so much more than catching babies — it’s about providing comprehensive, compassionate care for women throughout every stage of life.
My name is Carolyn, and I’m a certified nurse midwife here at Meadows Women’s Center. My journey into midwifery began with a desire to care for people in a way that’s deeply personal, holistic, and grounded in trust. I believe that when patients feel heard and respected, it transforms their entire healthcare experience — and that’s exactly what midwifery offers.
At Meadows, midwifery means partnership. I work alongside our amazing OB-GYN team to provide everything from annual exams and prenatal visits to birth planning, postpartum care, and beyond. Many people are surprised to learn that midwives don’t just help with labor — we’re here for contraception counseling, fertility support, menopause guidance, and general wellness, too.
One of the most important aspects of my role is education. I spend a lot of time talking with patients about their choices — explaining options for labor, pain management, and birth preferences. Whether someone wants an unmedicated birth or is considering an epidural or a planned Cesarean, my job is to make sure they feel informed and empowered.
I also like to remind people that midwifery doesn’t mean doing it alone. We collaborate closely with our OB physicians, especially in high-risk situations. If complications arise or someone needs a surgical delivery, we’re right there, working as a team to ensure the safest outcome for parent and baby. It’s a model of care built on respect — for each other, and for every individual we serve.
Being a midwife is more than a profession to me — it’s a calling. I’m honored to walk with patients through some of the most meaningful moments of their lives. And I’m especially grateful to be part of a practice that values personalized, respectful, and evidence-based care.
If you’ve ever been curious about working with a midwife or are wondering if midwifery care might be right for you, I’d love to talk. Whether it’s your first pregnancy or your fifth annual exam, you deserve care that listens, adapts, and puts your needs first.
With warmth,
Carolyn
